Bocados: Alegria Grande Mini Skeins from Manos del Uruguay

Have you tried colorwork knitting yet? Give it a go this summer with our newest free patterns and our new Bocados! The name is Spanish for "little bites," a perfect descriptor for these 25g skeins of Alegria Grande available in ten colorways. Use one or several to add a pop of color in a project!

Free Knitting Patterns using Bocados

Hand knit hats

Inspired by the zigzag pattern on Charlie Brown's iconic shirt, Carlito Marron (left) uses 1 skein of Alegria Grande in Ming and 1 Alegria Grande Bocado in Juanita for a beginner fair isle pattern. The Nightcap (right) is a classic stocking cap with contrasting stripes and a tassel. Here, 1 skein of Alegria Grande in Caprese and 1 Alegria Grande Bocado in Spirulina are paired for an easy striping pattern.

The Simple Ribbed Hat allows for color mixing; choose your favorite Alegria Grande Bocados for  2-, 3-, or 4-color versions!

  • 2-Color Version (left): Shown in AG9995 Agave (MC) with AGB2363 Tahiti (CC)
  • 3-Color Version (center): AG2121 Cinnamon (MC) with AGB2102 Juanita (CC1) and AGB2540 Kohl (CC2)
  • 4-Color Version (right): AG5000 Cincuenta (MC) with AGB2600 Magenta (CC1), AGB2058 Turmeric (CC2), and AGB2394 Teal (CC3).

Hand knit cowls

We went subtle when choosing which Bocados to pair with our main color in the Stutter Step Cowl (top). One skein of Alegria Grande in Pindo with pops of color from Spirulina and Turmeric Alegria Grande Bocados lend an elegant color texture to this easy fair isle cowl. The Rainbow Road cowl (bottom) features zigs and zags and is perfect for when you need a quick, cheerful project. Seeing the next color coming around the bend will keep you entertained! Six Bocados are used here: Magenta, Cactus Flower, Turmeric, Tahiti, Spirulina, and Teal.

Oddly reminiscent of the safety treads on stairs, the Rise and Run Cowl minds the gap with a delightful contrast color! As a study in color, the cowl is knit in two different versions: Alegria Grande and Maxima. Use 3 Alegria Grande Bocados to create a subtle gradient as shown above left in AG9008 Orquidea (MC) with AGB2934 Teal (CC1), AGB2363 Tahiti (CC2), and AGB2020 Spirulina (CC3). In Maxima M8109 Kilim (MC) and M2163 Apricot (CC), above right, one contrast color high-steps its way through the entrelac pattern.

Hand knit mitts

When your heart says "Spring" but the thermometer says "ugh", turn to the Drops of Spring mitts. They knit up quickly with 3 Alegria Grande Bocados, shown here in Oceano, Tahiti, and Spirulina. When they're done, you'll have warm hands and a cheerful reminder of warmer days ahead.

Check with your local Manos stockist for Bocados for your next project! We can’t wait to see the colors of Alegria Grande you combine and hope you’ll share photos with us on your favorite social channel.
