For the Fellas

Looking through the pattern magazines, books and Ravelry, you'll see there is no shortage of patterns to knit for women.  There are plenty of guys who knit and crochet and who would like to receive a handmade gift.  With the extensive color palette and variety of fibers offered in the Manos del Uruguay yarn line, you are sure to find something just right for that special guy.  If you are looking to knit for your dad, brother, uncle, grandfather or son, here are projects to inspire you. Hats and scarves are a knitter's go-to project for guys. These are practical items that can have a touch of interesting detail without being too fussy for the intended recipient. The Herringbone Parallelogram Scarf knit in Manos Silk Blend by ChristineGuest, (above left), is designed to wrap around the neck and cross over the chest, without leaving the ends to show under a jacket waist. The St. Charles Hat (center) knit in Silk Blend is a new design by Vashte Johnson. The leather band provides a visual break and provides an interesting textural contrast against the cables. Silk Blend is also used in the Windschief Hat (above right) knit by june-. The pattern is 2-in-1 as instructions are included to knit the hat and a matching cowl.

Now is a great time to start on a men's garment and have it ready for wearing this fall or to wrap up and put under the Christmas tree. Here is the Men's Zipped Raglan by Joelle Hoverson; the pattern calls for Wool Clasica. The one shown here was knit by KnotAnotherHat. If you are looking for a more classic style, you might like the Professor Vest knit by ArtLady to her husband's specifications, also in Wool Clasica.

Fingerless gloves are a great choice for guys. Knucks, like these made by Aeoist in Silk Blend, are a free pattern available from knitty.com. Customize them as much or as little as you like, maybe in team colors or by embroidering a word across the fingers as in the original pattern?  You could also use Manos as part of the gift wrap and do some felting with Wool Clasica to make a Harry Wine Bottle Tote like PeonyUnderhill did!

We encourage you to click on over to our Ravelry group or our Facebook page and share the projects you have made for your fella!
