Pattern Updates in Manos del Uruguay Yarns
Fall is a season of change. Perhaps you find yourself taking stock of your fall and winter wear, making note of items that require mending or have gone out of style. The Fairmount Fibers team has completed a similar task in revisiting older patterns and reknitting them to update the color palette or Manos del Uruguay yarn choice.
Start with the Everyday Handwarmers, in Alegria Grande, truly a one-skein wonder pattern. The garter stitch texture results in a stretchy mitt. The construction can be straightforward and simple for new knitters with a regular cast-on and sewn seam. Adventurous knitters may wish to try a provisional cast-on and grafted seam. This is a great portable project to start now as a stocking stuffer or small gift to have on hand.
In the Fresa cowl we’ve held Milo double together with Cabrito, for an ultra soft and cozy accessory that will keep the chilly breezes away. The bands of lace pattern makes for a gentle introduction to lace knitting.
The sequence knitting technique in Sedgwick is so versatile, we knit three different versions! The cowl in Silk Blend measures 52” circumference and 8¼” high. A wider wrap version in Milo is 16½” wide and 90” long when complete. Additionally, there is a classic scarf, 72” wide and 7.5” high, in Feliz.
A wool-linen blend, as found in Milo, makes the knit garment season-spanning! Fernon features a neat technique to create dimensional ‘embossed’ cables for the front and back center panels.
Limoges, our classic colorwork yoke sweater, is reknit in a modern, updated colorway! Silk Blend is smooth and lustrous, giving the yoke detailing beautiful dimensionality.
How will you refresh your handknit options for the upcoming seasons? We’d love to see your choices on Facebook, Ravelry, and Instagram!
