Spotlight on Gloria
In North America, many knitters and crocheters are looking forward to the return of autumn and working with a favorite wool. Equally exciting is when a new yarn from a favorite yarn company arrives in the local yarn shop. Gloria, the newest addition to the Manos del Uruguay yarn collection, is that new yarn!
Gloria is a classic three-ply worsted weight yarn, with a bouncy twist and super squishy hand. This 100% merino superwash wool comes in a generous put-up of approximately 219 yards in each 100g skein. Blankets, baby items, cowls, and sweaters are just a few of the patterns for which Gloria will be a perfect choice.

Yarn (clockwise from top left) Natural, Cachilo, Hibisco, Noche, and Vereda)[/caption] The color options for Gloria are the result of the work of Matteo Fogale and Laetitia de Allegri, two up-and-coming young designers. Last summer they visited Uruguay and expressed interest in working with the time honored crafts and traditional skills, wool and woodwork in particular. Over a month, they embarked on a road trip through Uruguay, making a stop in Algorta, where one of the Manos cooperatives is located. They spent some time with the artisans there, learning about their work and a bit about hand-weaving. The pictures they took are small pieces of the Uruguayan landscape, and provided the inspiration for the colorways. In the collage above, only five are shown. Gloria is available in sixteen colorways! If your shop has recently opened their shipment, encourage them to share with us and we can all share in the excitement! Or if you have brought several hanks of Gloria into your stash, we'd love to hear about your color choices and pattern plans. We are ever ready in the Ravelry group, on Facebook and Twitter, as well as Instagram!
