About KINUA

KINUA

Our name is inspired by Quinua, a small town in Ayacucho, located in the Andes of Perú, often referred to as “the city of the hands that talk” and renowned for its artisans, handmade traditions and picturesque architecture.

KINUA Yarns is an expression of our commitment to staying true to the traditions and values of the people of Quinua: to cherish our artisans, planet, and work while capturing the luxury in simplicity.

Maira, co-founder of Kinua, pictured in Macusani, Peru, holding a baby alpaca just 8 hours after birth at 4,315 meters (14,157 ft) above sea level. Often described as the “Alpaca Capital of the World,” Macusani is a truly special place — an unforgettable trip that reflects the deep connection between our fibers, the animals, and the Andean communities who care for them.

The KINUA Family

KINUA is a family-owned company located in Lima, born out of Maira’s love for natural fibers and dyeing. Together with her husband, Vince, they developed a textile lab where all KINUA yarns are designed and naturally dyed by hand.

The KINUA family is composed of 5 full-time spinners, over 35 hand-knitters, 4 weavers, and more than 5 artisans in charge of recollecting our natural dyeing resources every season.

The Luxury Blend

Peruvian Merino Wool

We work directly with a small group of local farmers from the Andes Mountains, nearly 4000 meters (13 000 feet) above sea level, to hand-select small batches of the finest Peruvian merino wool. Each lot is scoured, milled, spun and quality controlled by our team.
